Sea turtles are a minor fauna type encountered in Stranded Deep. During the course of the game, the player may encounter one of four sea turtles of the Cheloniidae family: Leonardus chelonia, Michelangelus chelonia, Raphaelus chelonia or Donatellus chelonia. Sea turtles can be found dwelling peacefully in most parts of the ocean, but are more commonly found in the shallows. Currently, all sea turtle species appear almost identical to one another.
While sea turtles can be killed by the player, they provide little use, as their corpses cannot be butchered, eaten or cooked, nor can they be picked up and stored in the player's inventory.
- It was possible to kill any turtle while it was not within striking distance by holding down the 'use' button (LMB by default) after the initial strike. This also applied to most sea fauna, excluding small fish.
- As of v0.03.H2, this method has been patched, and is now ineffective.
- While the turtles featured in the game are based off of a real-life species (genus Chelonia, or the green sea turtle), their species names (Leonardus, Michelangelus, Raphaelus and Donatellus) are fictional.
- Each turtle's scientific name acts as a direct reference to Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael and Donatello, the primary protagonists from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, who were in turn named after famous artists Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael and Donatello, respectively.
