| A good cutting tool with average durability.|
Useful for harvesting plants and general damage.

The pocket knife is a loot item that acts as a upgraded version of the refined knife. The knife, though quick, cuts slower than larger tools, and so takes more time to accomplish tasks; this wastes a lot of the precious durability.
Previous to version 0.13, it was one of four starting items. Now, it is solely a loot item.
The best way to maintain the pocket knife is to only use it to acquire lashings on the starter island, before crafting a crude axe to do the rest of the work. Alternatively, the player may use a rock shard for all of their daily tasks to save up on any tool's durability, as the rock shard can be used for any length of time without breaking.
- Like other loot items, despite spending a considerable amount of time inside underwater shipwrecks, the pocket knives (excluding the player's first knife) manage to remain almost completely well-preserved, to the point where they can still be used to accomplish many tasks without a problem. Their appearances also appear nearly brand-new, again despite the length of time spent underwater.
- In the current build, like most tools, up to four pocket knives can be stored in the same inventory slot, even if they each have varying degrees of durability.
