The flare gun is a loot item found in Stranded Deep. Flare guns can be found stored inside hard cases and lockers contained within shipwrecks and plane wrecks. Despite the description's claim that it is capable of scaring away predators, firing the flare gun at a shark will not frighten it away.
Uses
The flare gun currently holds no purpose except as a temporary light source; however, no one but the player is there to view the shot flares. In future updates, the flare gun will possibly be used as a way to signal passing planes and ships towards the player's position, in order to guarantee a rescue.
Once acquired, the flare gun can be used only twice before exhaustion. After both flares have been shot, attempting to fire the flare gun again will only result in a click, signifying the lack of extra flares.
Bugs
- Prior to the 0.01 Hot Fix, a glitch existed that allowed the flare gun to hold an infinite number of uses.

- The fired flares do not have any collision patterns - they will pass through any and all objects in their path.
- Like other loot items, despite spending a considerable amount of time inside underwater shipwrecks, the flare gun manages to remain almost completely well-preserved, to the point where it functions without any fault to speak of. The flares it comes with also seem to work in good condition, being bright enough to illuminate a wide area from the sky.
