Campfire

A campfire is a craftable structure in Stranded Deep.

Overview

Campfires act as a vital aspect of survival, as it allows the player to both cook food and distill bad or salty water. A lit campfire has a duration of approximately half a day (twelve in-game hours). Once burned out, a campfire's fuel can be replenished using either sticks (one stick burns for 90 minutes) or palm fronds (one frond burns for 50 minutes).

A campfire holds the potential for two structural improvements: a fire pit and a fire spit, for added durability and added functionality, respectively.

Obtaining

Building a campfire requires five sticks. The player does not require a hammer to build a campfire, meaning that the player is able to construct one wherever the materials are readily available.

Usage

The campfire can be used to either cook or distill. Food items, such as crabs, most fish or shark meat, can be cooked over a lit campfire; buckets of sea water can be made clean. To be able to cook food or boil water, the player must click and hold the 'drag' key (default 'RMB') over any item and drag it over the flame; an audible sizzling noise will sound, notifying the player that the item is currently cooking. The player will need to monitor the entire process (which may range from a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on the item) to ensure that the item does not fall out of the fire.

Once the item is finished cooking/distilling, a "ding" sound will be heard, notifying the player that the item is safe to eat/drink.

The player is also able to use the flame to keep an elevated body temperature during the cold nights.
