|Blacktip Reef Shark|
Creature / Food
The Blacktip Reef Shark is one of the several sharks featured in Stranded Deep and one of several fauna to be introduced in v0.02. Blacktip reef sharks can be distinguished from other sharks by their smaller size, slender shape and proportionally longer pectoral fins.
Blacktip reef sharks can be found primarily in shallow waters among the coral. Unlike other sharks, the blacktip reef shark does not attack a player or attempt to knock them out of their raft; rather, they will swim away from the player in fear if they come too close. Due to their timid and mostly non-violent nature, blacktip reef sharks are an easy way for the player to acquire a substantial food source without risking injury, provided they can keep up with the shark if it attempts to escape. However, chasing the shark can cause it to get angry enough to attack the player. Once killed, their corpse can be butchered to drop two pieces of shark meat.
- As of v0.03.H2, the spawn chance of a blacktip reef shark has been adjusted from 100% down to 25%.
- It was possible to kill any shark while it was not within striking distance by holding down the 'use' button (LMB by default) after the initial strike. This also applied to most sea fauna, excluding small fish. It was also possible, however, to lose the shark's corpse if it went too far out at sea when it died.
- As of v0.03.H2, this method has been patched, and is now ineffective.
